Two neighbourhoods in Coquitlam were undergoing planning updates. We worked with development services and the community to identify ways to improve access to parks and recreation.

Partington Creek was a greenfield development close to the side of the hill, with a lot of steep slopes. We worked with the planning department to review potential sites for parks as well as recreation facilities. In our assessment we identified a potential park site as undevelopable land, and suggested that it would remain as natural irrespective of City intervention. Our recommendation saved the City more than $100,000 in land aquisition.

Maillardville is an older established neighbourhood with limited opportunities for additional park space. We recommended enhancing the experience of being in Maillardville by naturalizing elements such as boulevards, bike paths and potential walking trails. We also suggested more trees along the roads to add park-like qualities to the walking areas of the community.
