With the trail half completed, the Sunshine Coast Regional District needed to determine the feasibility of completing the Suncoaster Trail from one ferry terminal to another. Our partners, Diamond Head Consulting, focused on the natural terrain and trail design, and we focused on enhancements to the trail experience.
We worked with the Sunshine Coast Museums and Archives to identify key areas of cultural interest along the trail that will be marked with trail signage. Some of the sites we located included a utopian settlement by Finnish settlers, the route of logging railways, a farmer’s co-operative, and a luxury steamship line.
The cultural heritage of the trail will be marked for travellers to better understand the history and community of the Sunshine Coast.
Work with the local First Nations is also in progress.
